How do tumors start?

Tumors start when a defect or mutation occurs in the genes, which affects the normal life cycle of the cell and thus turns it into a cancerous cell beyond the body's control. It is worth noting that there are several factors that can play a role in the initiation of tumors, the most important of which include the following

  2. Environmental factors
  3. Hormonal changes
  4. Chronic inflammation
  5. Dietary pattern
What are the symptoms of a tumor in the body?

There are several symptoms that may indicate the presence of a tumor in the body, however, it should be noted that these symptoms may vary from one case to another depending on the type, location and stage of the tumor, but in general, common symptoms that may be associated with tumors include the following

  1. Fatigue and exhaustion
  2. The patient may feel lumps or swelling in the affected area
  3. Changes in body weight
  4. The tumor may be accompanied by persistent or recurring pain in the affected area
  5. Changes may occur in the skin surrounding the tumor
  6. Persistent cough
  7. Hoarseness
  8. Difficulty swallowing
  9. Indigestion or feeling uncomfortable after eating
  10. Changes in dietary pattern
Do tumors show up on ultrasound?

Yes, in some cases tumors can appear on ultrasound, as when there is a tumor or mass in the body, it can appear on ultrasound as a lump that is different from the surrounding normal tissues.

However, it should be noted that ultrasound is not a 100% accurate way to detect tumors, as there may be small or unclear tumors on ultrasound, and in these cases additional tests may be required, such as magnetic resonance imaging or catheterization.

When are tumor markers dangerous?

Tumor markers may be dangerous in some cases, as the seriousness of the tumor depends on several factors, including the type of tumor, its size, location, and extent of spread in the body, in addition to the general health of the patient

The following are some factors that indicate the seriousness of the tumor

  1. Rapid growth
  2. Cancerous spread
  3. Malignant tumor
  4. Disturbing symptoms
  5. The effect of the tumor on vital functions
